Meet Veronica Chapman, author of I Know I Can! an inspiring books for young girls. It’s never to early for our girls to know and understand how smart and beautiful they are.
Get to know Veronica and her reason for writing this amazing book.
FAB Haute Mama: Congratulations on writing I Know I Can! and the decision to publish it. Tell us about yourself?
Veronica: My name is Veronica Nicole Chapman and I am a Jersey girl living in the
Boston area. I am really committed to using my talents to inspire, educate,
and empower young people. This mission is included in everything I do; in
my youth organization, Boxxout , and in my startup, My Crowning Jewel.
FAB Haute Mama: What inspired you to write I Know I Can!
Veronica: I wrote *I Know I Can!* during the week before my graduation from Spelman College in 2003; but it wasn’t until now that I really felt the need to publish it.
My youth organization Boxxout designs and implements educational workshops for teens. One of the workshops focuses solely on building the self-esteem of teenage girls. Seeing first-hand how negative messages in society have impacted our teenager girls, I now know it’s so important that we help strengthen the foundation of little girls so they can be better prepared to cope with the negativity they will face. It’s for this reason that this children’s book really needs to be published.
FAB Haute Mama: Who did you write I Know I Can! for?
Veronica: I Know I Can! is meant to be read to little girls from the womb. LOL! Honestly I wrote it so parents and guardians can read it to their little girls until they can read it to themselves as toddlers, or perhaps even when they are preparing for a new adventure like college or traveling. Even teens and adults can use encouragement and inspiration! This book serves that purpose.
FAB Haute Mama: Share one lesson girls and/or their moms will learn from the book.
Veronica: One of the lessons girls will learn is the value of setting goals and accomplishing them despite the obstacles they may face. In the book they will learn valuable lessons from extraordinary people like Fannie Lou Hamer who had a lot of integrity and stood firm in the face of injustice.
FAB Haute Mama: What does being a Haute Mama mean to you?
Veronica: I am not a mommy. But I have a Haute Mama! My mom is an awesome example
of love, wisdom, courage, and tenacity. That’s haute!
Please support the Kickstarter campaign for I Know I Can! Our girls deserve to have this book as a part of their collection. It is one that will definitely come in handy through the countless transitions they will face from childhood to adulthood.
