Tips for Reading ‘The Magic’

Tips for reading and working on the book The Magic

Last Thursday, I shared the books I’m reading now. Yes I read multiple books at a time. It’s just the way my brain works. Am I the only one? Anyway, one of the books I’m reading and working on is The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. The Magic takes you on a 28 Day gratitude journey.

There are 28 principles to follow and at the end, you will have hopefully changed your gratitude mindset and bought some magic into your life as a result. I love the the focus on gratitude as a way to change your life and basically manifest what you want. This is my third time working through the book. The first time, I fell off because I was not prepared. The second time I was more prepared but I was not committed. Now here I am having worked through the book almost to the end and I know my gratitude mindset has shifted and some of my desires have come full circle.

The Magic is definitely worth the read and working through the exercises. If nothing else, you learn to see the good in each day. You learn to express gratitude for the little things you otherwise take for granted.  There are some days you need to be prepared for in advance. Most people could probably jump right in the book and make it through but for those of us who need a little more prep time (hello every mom I know), I thought I share some tips for getting started on reading and working through The Magic.

Give Yourself Grace

The goal is to complete the work in 28 consecutive days but please give yourself grace is you fall behind a day or two. I know on my second time working through the book, I got so stressed when I missed a day that I lost my commitment. Know that you can take a day or two on each task if not more. This time around I worked on some of the principles for several days. I do plan on going through it in 28 consecutive days in the future but I am enjoying the slower pace and really working on my mental and emotional space along with it.

Journal It

You will be writing a daily gratitude list. There are some days that require more writing and if you’re like me, you will find yourself wanting to write even more. I believe in good old fashion paper and pen. I love being able to go back and read my daily gratitude and any ideas that I worked on after. I don’t have a specific journal for the book. Everything goes in my daily journal. Definitely journal it.

PreWork

There are several days in the book where you will either have to read a lesson a day before or have specific items on hand. Here are some things to keep in mind by day:

  • Read day 2 on day 1
  • You will need a smooth rock you can hold in the palm of your hand for day 2.
  • You will need 3 printed pictures of people of the people/relationships that are most important to you.
  • You will need a $1 bill.
  • I try to read all the lessons in the morning but these are the ones that need to be read in the morning: Day 3, 6, 7, 14.
  • Day 13: Be prepared with supplies to make a magic board (similar to a vision board)

Do It With A Friend

I have a friend who read The Magic and did the work before I did. We did attempt to start together on one of my tries but none the less she made it through. I was grateful to have her as a person I can share my new findings with or ask questions like “Do you think I can write this on this?” based on a task in the book. Having a friend along the journey also helps with staying committed.

Have you read The Magic? What are your thoughts?
