The One Chore I Do Every Morning And Why

This one chore every morning will make the rest of your daily cleaning time shorter and free up more time for you. Do this one chore every morning for these benefits.

What do Mornings look like for you? In an ideal world, I’d wake up around 5am for some quiet time, exercise, reading, etc. But kids! Someone inevitable wakes up during the night which throws this mama off track. But husband! I don’t really have to say why, right? But Insomnia because of course that’s in the mix too. And the occasional full 8 hours of sleep actually happens maybe once every few weeks. Mostly i get up around 6-6:15 which is just enough time to get the morning hustle going and the off to school on time routine in full swing. But no matter what, there is the one chore I do every morning which sets the tone for the rest of the day.

No it’s not make my bed, although I do that too. It just doesn’t happen first thing in the morning because husband or kid or rushing. Indulge me a bit as I share the chore and the why.

Do this one chore every morning to help keep your kitchen clean for the rest of the rest of the day.

The One Chore I Do Every Morning

Ok, the one chore I do every morning is empty the dishwasher.

No it’s not earth shattering information but I learned this tip a few years ago from a fellow mom friend and then I sat back and thought about how my mom did things when I was growing up. I’m a NYC girl and most apartments and houses back then did not have dishwashers. But my mom had a hard rule. All dishes must be washed and put away before we went to bed. Nothing left in the dish drainer to dry. Nothing! Every single morning was a clean slate. Of course we scrubbed the counters, stove, swept and mopped (yes my mom is a mop daily person) too but looking back I can clearly see how all dishes being washed and put away set the tone for the next day.

Because you are basically right back to uses some form of dish or glass as soon as the morning routine starts so emptying the dishwasher is a must every morning. And if my dishwasher was next level fancy with like super drying technology, I’d actually empty it the night before. But it is not so we will stick with this as a must do in the morning.

Why you should empty your dishwasher first thing in the morning.

Why I empty the dishwasher every morning

Because it basically means my sink will remain clean for the rest of the day. If the dishwasher is empty, then I can load dishes as we use them. And while it’s usually me, this is a chore the kids help with too so win, win.

It also means that if I need to use the sink to prep any meals, it’s empty, clean and available.

It also means I can wash any produce or packages I bring in from a trip to the grocery store or farmers market right away. Hurray for clean and ready to eat or cook produce.

But the biggest reason i empty the dishwasher first thing in the morning is… I don’t have to spend time emptying it and then reloading it at night which is a total killjoy at the end of a long day. Seriously once my kids are down for the evening, I prefer to relax. And if the dishes are basically packed and ready to go, I can get the rest of the kitchen in order before we start the wind down to bedtime. A clean kitchen at the start of the bed time routine is so worth it friends!

No joke!

So give it a try if you don’t already do this. Empty your dishwasher first thing or as soon as possible in the morning. For my friends who don’t have or don’t prefer to use the dishwasher, empty your dish drainer at night. All the above reasons why above still apply to you. And let me know how it goes in the comments if you already do this or if you’ve started doing it.
