There are several lighthouses along the Georgia Coast. The drive from the lighthouse on Tybee Island to the lighthouse on St. Simon Island is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. The other three lighthouses are located between these two points. As a family, we can enjoy a weekend trip to the coast with the goal of climbing at least one of the three lighthouses that allows for visits to the top.
Tybee Island Lighthouse & Museum
It’s 178 steps to the top of the Tybee Island Lighthouse. This lighthouse is one of the most intact lighthouses in the US. Take a self-guided tour of the museum to learn the history and then make your way to the top to take in the beautiful views.
Sapelo Island Visitors Center
You will have to take a short ferry ride to visit this beauty. As the second oldest brick lighthouse in the US, Sapelo Island Lighthouse has been restored and is in use with a new light and sense and also repainted to match its original color. Tours of the island and lighthouse can be scheduled through Georgia State Parks.
Check out the other two must see Georgia Lighthouses then map out your road trip.
