Thank you Juicy Juice for sponsoring this post. This is our flying kites & dancing in the rain story.
While many people celebrate the unofficial start of summer on Memorial Day, we like to keep the day quiet and carefree in remembrance of Elijah who was killed in action. It’s a day we remember more than his ultimate sacrifice. We remember him playing his violin, dancing, and joking and somehow always missing his bus at the end of a visit for the holidays.
My kids are still too young to fully understand what the day is about so making the day as light hearted as possible for them is important for me. I truly believe kids have the right to be kids regardless of how heavy the world might be around them. So on this rainy day, my kids laughed and danced in the rain. A simple joy Zoe has loved for as long as I can remember. I’ve always believed it is her special connection to her God Papa Uncle Ronnie, her personal angel in the sky. And E has no problem joining in on the fun.
They’ve far outgrown their rain gear so I know I will have to do some shopping for days when puddle jumping is in order. But for today, they simply dance and laugh in the rain.
Once the rain passed, I dried the kids off, changed their clothes and gave them lunch. Then it was time for some new fun. The kids love flying the drone with dad but I thought it would be nice to try out their beginner kites I bought them a few months back. Are you the mom who buys things and then somehow they end up lost in the abyss that is the garage? No, well I need to be more like you.
Big cousin Nico was more than happy to help the kids with their kites. Mama (that’s me) was in charge of snacks and taking pictures. The funniest moments was seeing E chase the kite and then run to me for a sip of his Juicy Juice Splasher. Only toddlers will stop for a sip of juice mid play.
Meanwhile, Zoe kindly informed me (without me asking) that she will have her snack and juice later. Every time she says she will have or do something later, I can’t help but giggle. What does she know about later? Apparently everything.
Kite flying and dancing in the rain. A simple day of fun for kids, while the rain drops, hides mama’s tears.
Do you enjoy flying kites & dancing in the rain with your kids?
