Planner? Check! Laptop? Check! Cell Phone! Double Check Carseats, kids, essentials? Trible Check! And everything in between. Does this sound like you, mama? Well if it does, then we are twinning in this world of stay at home mom and entrepreneur life. And this is just the short list for when I am on the go. Today I’m sharing some of my tips on how to keep life organized while on the go. This is how I get through dropping off my kiddos to their morning out program and then heading to my office (the coffee shop).
I have a confession. I’ve been surviving on 1G of data for the last few years (the horror). Overages are not this budgeting mama’s friend so now I spend $49.88 per line to enjoy unlimited talk and text plus up to 10GB of 4G LTE data with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan. And you know what else I get? A free movie ($7 value) on VUDU every month. I can hook up the kids tablet so they can watch the latest new release if we are on an extended drive or to keep them occupied if I need to meet a deadline right before dinner. Or I can save the free movie for a little mommy me time. You know that elusive time you use to catch up on the what hundreds of movies you’ve missed.
From 1GB to 10GB, I can’t believe what I’ve been missing. Data folks! Data. If there is any one thing that is important on the list of how to keep life organized, it is being able to manage our schedule, check emails and turn on the GPS without worrying about running out of data on my phone. Sure a fancy phone is cute but I need data. Data even trumps my must-have cup of coffee.
I can stay connected, make deadlines and be sure my kids are safe and have a great time while mom is working. Tax season was the perfect time to upgrade to the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan. Because I keep so many of my business files plus household expenses spreadsheets in the cloud. I love being able to access my files no matter where I go plus keeping reminders on my phone to pay outstanding expenses and to send over files for projects and to our accountant. After finishing up my taxes, a free movie on VUDU was definitely in order. LOL!
How to Keep Life Organized While On The Go
- Plan
- Schedule
- Organize
- Execute
Plan
I keep a running list of weekly activities, meetings, and projects on my phone. I include websites, addresses and links to discounts where necessary. I aim to plan out our entire month at a glance and fill in pop in events as they come up.
Schedule & Organize
I try to color code my planner by kids activities, family, doctor appointments and business. I use my planner for this and then cross reference with the calendar and to-do list on my phone. Since I always have my phone with me, I can easily keep track of our busy life. I send calendar updates to the Hubs via our shared Google Calendar and I also send him reminder text. You know because otherwise he will forget.
I keep necessities in the car. Diapers, wipes, extra clothes, snacks, and toys. Oh and a travel potty because 3 year-olds!
Execute
I prep clothes and meals the night before. I get up early and get everything started before the rest of the family wakes up. And then we are up and ready to tackle our day.
That’s it. It’s not always easy but this is how I manage to get it all done while keeping everyone happy and growing my business. Having extra data on hand makes my busy life so much easier not to mention this upgrade to my dinosaur of a phone. No, I didn’t have a flip phone but it might as well had been. Now I’m sporting the new LG Leon smartphone. which was on rollback for $49.82 from $99.82. Plus the $25 Starter Kit, I upgraded my digital life at my local Walmart for under $80.
