It’s time for my healthy me update. Last month I shared some of my challenges with having a healthy lifestyle and with emotional eating. I also shared that I was using Jenny Craig to help with my portion control issues. All is going ok. Not great but ok and definitely better than where I was before making the decision to make changes in what I eat, how I eat and how I manage my emotions.
Now the truth is, I am still an emotional eater and I don’t think that will ever change. Even while doing the Jenny Craig program, I faced challenges with my emotional eating. The program comes with some really good desserts which are portion appropriate but on a few occasions, I ate more than one dessert in a sitting. That’s as real and honest as it gets. While I’m telling you the real, let me add that sometimes I added more to the entrees. This usually went down around the dreaded hormonal “time”. But overall I am happy I didn’t completely fall off the wagon or stay off the wagon when I did have a hiccup.
One of the great things about my journey so far was doing it with a friend. We started Jenny Craig a day apart and having her by my side was perfect. She would tell me how she felt about the meals for the day which prepared me for my turn the next day. We would review the menu together and go “really?” She enjoyed the sweet almost dessert like breakfast options while I was always “give me my eggs and sausage” hangry about them. This mama needs traditional breakfast food including pancakes! And if one of us was having an “I’m over this” moment, we would calming talk each other off the ledge. Thanks, LaShawn, you saved me on too many occasions to count.
And my JC consultant Samantha has been a lifesaver too. I don’t know how they knew to pair us together but the fact that we both have young children at home made for some serious “I understand” moments during our weekly calls. There was a day that I missed Samantha’s call and she sent an email basically saying “I know you are having a tough week but let’s do this’. And she was right. Sleepless kids = sleepless and stressed and stress eating mama. Having someone always there to keep me on track, cheer me on and motivate me who also understands this mom life thing has been perfect
Healthy Me Results
I am down 8 lbs* which for some may not be a big deal but it is wonderful to me. More importantly, I’ve lost 4 inches around my mama tummy and 2 inches around my hips! Listen, I am able to wear a pair of jeans I love but couldn’t wear since before my pregnancy with Baby E. POW!
I love that I can still enjoy the foods I love because of the variety Jenny Craig provides. JC has 40 professional chefs on staff with over 100 menu items and the food quality proves it. Now I wasn’t a fan of eating only 1200 calories per day at first but being able to add fruits and vegetables work for me. And for the times that I fell off, I was still eating almost half the calories of what I consuming prior to starting the program. I count that as a win!
Lastly, I’ve been rocking my workouts averaging 30 minutes each day. From walks with the kids to workout DVDs and trips to the gym for classes. Changing up the routine keeps me motivated to keep going.
