Goodbye Crib + Nursery Design Trends

Baby E said "goodbye crib" and now we need to finish designing his toddler bedroom to go with his big boy bed. 2017 Nursery design inspiration. Should we include greenery, the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year?

I have a confession, Baby E’s nursery now bedroom (I’ll explain in a moment) still needs a design theme. Long before I had my children, I would dream of what their rooms would look like. Accent walls, lots of natural light, pops of color and beautiful artwork. A reading nook (hello cute tents with strong lights) and so much more. But once again, I am behind the curb with both kids. I’m not a natural when it comes to decorating but what I am is a procrastinator. No surprise there right?

GoodBye Crib & Nursery, Hello Toddler Bed & Bedroom

Last week we said “goodbye crib” for the very last time. On Thursday morning, Zoe came screaming “MOMMY, THE BABY GOT GOT. THE BABY GOT OUT”. I was in the garage working on a different project I’m taking far too long with. I came running and who do I find at the top of the stairs? Baby E with the biggest smile. “Zoe, did you take the baby out of his crib?” “No mommy, he did it himself.” The hubs came out ti the hallway with a puzzled look on his face. “What’s going on?” he asked. Zoe all excited scream “THE BABY GOT OUT!” and Baby E started laughing and clapping.

So we put him back in his crib and waited. Within seconds he was on the move like Spiderman. Yep, this little guy decided that he was over the crib and made it so. The hubs and I shook our heads. You know I’m a crazy anxiety train wreck of a mom so I immediately went back to the garage and grabbed my tools. I come back to find Baby E climbing back in the crib just like I knew would happen. This guy is all about his climb. Operation GoodBye Crib, Hello Toddler Bed was underway.

So here we are, he’s adjusting to his new digs (the first nap did not go well) but look at his room. Bare walls! This is pathetic. I have lovely stripes to add to accent wall but they remain in the box. I have artwork and even a few accents but none of it is on display. And once again, I am undecided about the overall theme and colors for his room. White, navy and gray are still my top choices. Yellow is what I thought would be the accent color but I’m pretty intrigued with the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year, Greenery. I like that it is bright and I think it will play nicely with the main colors I want. At least it seems that way in my head. Where are my interior design friends? Help.

I’m looking at this 2017 Nursery Design Trends Guide from 76th & Newbury and narrowing down my ideas. You see how the yellow works so well with blue and gray? Maybe I will throw in a bit of greenery for good measure. I guess we can’t call this big guys room a nursery anymore but Baby E will have a fun room design before his 2nd birthday. Hold me to it.

He is too much! It’s crazy watching your journey because you’ve been sharing him with us since your pregnancy and now I’m like When did he grow up so much! These trends are really cool, I love black and white with pops of colors because they can grow with it.

Adanna, I still can’t believe he is almost two. I feel like I missed some of the months because they went by so fast. Black and white with pops of color is perfect. I love that theme for sure.
