Friday Five: My Five Dream Half Marathons

Friday Five

Today I am participating in the Friday Five Link Up hosted by Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia from You Signed Up For WHAT?!, and Mar from Mar On The Run! Running is my sport of choice and these ladies do it so well. This is my first week linking up with this great group of running women. Come join in on the fun.

FAB Friday Five

The theme for this week’s Friday Five is: Five Places I’d Love To Run. Just this week I was talking to one of the coaches for the Peachtree Road Race. He was rocking his Brooklyn Half Tee and I was all excited. Yep, BROOKLYN IN THE HOUSE! I’m a Brooklyn girl. Always have been, always will be. I told him I plan to run the BK Half in 2015. After our chat I stumbled upon this weeks link-up and realized I actually have a bucket list for races of which I can easily pick my top 5 so here they are:

1. Brooklyn Half Marathon

There really is no further explanation necessary but let me just say that running through Prospect Park would mean the world to me. As a sprinter back in High School, we did our “distance runs” in Prospect Park. Go Brooklyn Tech! Prospect Park is also the park I grew up in. Family picnics, church picnics, picnic dates, summer concerts, movies and so much more, Prospect Park is simply my favorite park ever. And then the straightway down to Coney Island. FUGGEDABOUTIT! I’m in there like swimwear. And I am definitely grabbing a Nathan’s hotdog with some cheese fries and an Italian ice pop after. Ha!

2. The Jamaica Half Marathon

Yeah Mon. Running through the streets of the country of my heritage would warm my soul. I can see it now, the blue ocean in the backdrop, the smell of jerk seasoning, and the reggae and dancehall rhythm on the race course. Miami gives me a close feeling of Jamaica so I so the Miami Half deserves on honorable mention right here. Post race, a Red Stripe, some jerk pork with plantain and breadfruit and a jelly coconut. Chuh! Mi ready ah ready.

3. The London Half

Jamaica will always be the country I call home, however I was born in London so running there would be in honor of my birthplace. Plus I would get see family; visit Harrods and shop in the open air markets. My post race meal would be fish and chips of course.

4. Disney Princess Half

Come on who doesn’t want to run through Disney. I would feel like a kid all over again. I love Disney. Disney World was the first vacation The Hubs (boyfriend at the time) and I went on. We had so much fun. Grabbing a hug from Mickey, a monster turkey leg and some funnel cake would seal the deal.

5. Paris Half

Paris, je t’aime! I dream of climbing the Eiffel Tower. I dream of shopping on the Avenue Montaigne and Avenue des Champs-Elysees. I dream of visiting French wine country. I dream. All of this would be a perfect ending to a Paris Half Marathon vacation. After the race, you can find me at a local cafe sipping on what else cafe with a breakfast croissant and macaroons for dessert.

What are the five places you would like to run/workout?

You have a pretty sweet list! Well, I can only vouch for one…the Disney Princess Half was AMAZING! I had such a great time and I know you will enjoy it! Princess will have you spoiled. I’m getting ready for the Walt Disney World Marathon (weekend) so I know it will be great too! Basically ANY runDisney race. London and Paris are definitely on my list. I’d love to run one in NY! Love that city!

Hi Artney. Good luck on your Disney Marathon. Can’t wait to read all about it. I can’t wait to rock the Disney Princess Half. And yes take in a race in NYC. The crowds are like no other. You will feel like you have your own cheer squad the entire route.
