Last week my sweet baby boy got his first haircut. I share that so calmly now but last week I was a little devastated. Why? Well, that’s what happens when you leave your baby in the morning with his fro intact but come back to this!
Yes, mamas, the hubs cut his hair without telling me. No, he did not have to ask permission to give his son a haircut but I wanted to know in advance to prepare myself and to prepare Baby E. Almost a week later and he is still touching his head looking for his hair. A first haircut requires some emotional prep for a mama. There is also a thing called video for memories, no? Not to share on social media but to keep and maybe share with Baby E at some big event of his because the horror would be priceless. LOL.
But anyway, here we are. Baby E got his first haircut. He is still as cute as ever but this haircut made me realize a few things:
He will always be my (last) baby but he is growing up so fast.
He is so adorable. Like the most adorable “Big Guy” ever.
I have serious eyelash envy! Both of my kids have beautiful lashes. I do ok in the lash department but mascara helps me out in a major way.
First Haircut Cutie
In a matter of a few days, Baby E went from sleeping in his crib with a full head of hair to doing the grand crib breakout and getting his first haircut. Where do we go from here? I’m hoping not the emergency room because seriously, his climbing may just land us there.
Want to know something interesting? Most Jamaican (Caribbean actually) families do not give their sons their first haircut until they can fully talk or until they are two years old. It’s an old superstition that if you cut their hair before then, they will not talk.
I can’t lie, I was worried about this superstition but the way Baby E says “stop it” and so many other things means this old wives tale is just that. I didn’t get great pics of the little guy on the day of his first haircut. Here is the only one I could salvage. You know because he runs and jumps and is not here for pics in general. LOL.
What was the first haircut experience like for your little one? and for you?
