February: A Month Of History. A Month of Love.

February

Happy February!

February

Just like that we are in the second month of 2015. This is the month of history and the month of love. February is Black History Month. Now let me just say in our family we celebrate our history all year long. But I love that there is month dedicated to sharing our stories, our history, our legacy. In honor of Black History Month, I will be sharing stories, outings, activities and more. The girls will have some fun learning more about who we are. Black History is really just history but if adding the word black makes it that much bigger then I am ok with that.  A great people!

February was made for love. Valentine’s Day is almost here. How do you celebrate? This year we will focus on family friendly Valentine’s Day ideas. I’ll also be partnering with The Fabulous Five which is a group of mom bloggers sharing our monthly Too 5 picks on a variety of topics. Look out for our first post which goes live on February 6.

February Black History

Today in Black History:

February 1st is the birthday of Langston Hughes. Today would have been the 113th birthday of this acclaimed American poet, writer, activist. Check out today’s Google Doodle and video dedicated to Langston Hughes.

Today is also Super Bowl Sunday. Russell Wilson will be starting in his second consecutive super bowl. He won last year and I am hoping he wins today. If he does, he will make history as the only African American Quarterback to ever win 2 Super Bowls. As it stands, he is the only African American quarterback to ever play in two Super Bowls. He is one of only 5 African American quarterbacks to ever make it to the Super Bowl and only the second one to ever win a Super Bowl. An added note: The Seattle Seahawks is the only NFL team to have an all African American quarterback roster. Who are the other African American Quarterbacks to make the Super Bowl? Find out here. One of them is from my all time favorite team (The Eagles)

I could go on and on about this day in black history but I’ll save some things for you to research and I’ll share more throughout the month.

Stay tuned for more of February A month of History. A month of Love. The #LoveBrownLove series is launching this month too.

How will you be celebrating love and history this month? Of History. A Month of Love.

MJ, I’m excited to continue to teach our kids about our heritage and culture. My son gets so excited because his favorite subject (at seven) is history. So we are actually going to be looking into joining an online AA history program.
