It’s time for back to school style with Z. My girl is all about her dresses. Dresses, skirts, frills and cute shoes. These are her things. So how do you do you do back school style when your kid loves dresses but her school prefers play clothes?
What are play clothes anyway? I had to ask a friend and she said play clothes are clothes that are comfortable, easy to play in and are ok to get dirty, stained or damaged during the school day. In my mind that just means clothes.
While I find myself reserving some things for special days or outings, I definitely let my kid wear what she wants. Sometimes that means she is heading out to a play date in a fancy dress with a crinoline underneath. She’s been known to wear her ballet flats on the playground. She is also the kid that will ignore the outfit I left out for her in favor of her own pick.
Dresses are her Z’s comfort and I really don’t care if they get “damaged” during the day. That’s what shopping during sales (hi JC Penney!). spray cleaner and being ok with my kid being happy is for. But we do compromise. We aim for cute casual dress styles, plus leggings or shorts underneath and comfortable but cute sporty sole shoes or sneakers. I let her teachers know that I am ok with spills and things that may happen during the day. I choose not to fight with my kid about what she prefers to wear. I even let her pick out her favorites while we are shopping.
So here are some of Z’s favorite back to school style picks from JC Penney. She is ready for Pre-K and proud about it.
A classic dress is a must for my little Z. She rocks it with leggings underneath and cute kicks.
I have a confession, I have to find a pair of these Converse Rubber Chuck Taylor’s for myself. I mean come on. They are hot pink and water resistant. My girl is all about the puddle jumping life. Who can blame her in these little cuties? Swoon!
Denim is always in style. Denim dress -spunky leggings + cute shoes. This is her jump, climb and play go to look.
She’s always ready for a little climbing action.
And a little reading and giggles under the tree.
We shop JC Penney because I can find a variety of back to school fashions at great price points from many of our favorite brands all in one place. I’m all about the one stop shop life and Penney’s did not disappoint. I grabbed some much-needed home items too because Penney’s offers a broad assortment of products from leading private, exclusive and national brands are available. One stop shopping folks. It’s the mama way of life.
Z is in charge of what she wants to wear and how she wants to wear it (within reason of course). I’m ok with that. What’s your child’s favorite back to school style looks?

August 6, 2017 at 12:49 PMRock on, little one! Own your style. I am that person that will wear chucks with my dresses and dare anyone to say anything. I feel confident and comfortable in dresses and that’s just the way it is. I also want those hot pink sneakers!! I am desperate to find some pink or gold ones.
